Woven Heritage.
The Loom Where it All Began.

Handwoven in small batches from linen, silk, GOTS-certified organic Turkish cotton. Each pestamel carries a living tradition forward.

Discover the Craft

For hundreds of years, towels across the world were flat-woven.

Each culture gave it a different name. In Türkiye, they are called pestamel.

Hamam culture stood at the center of Ottoman life, and the pestamel used in the hamam was not incidental to that ritual. It was central to it.

Within the Ottoman court, refinement was expected. Sultans and Sultanas continually challenged their weavers to create textiles of greater beauty, greater distinction, greater invention. Status and station were denoted by the level of refinement achieved. Woven for heat and steam, the pestamel was designed for absorbency, ease of movement, and long use. Its simplicity was deliberate, its proportions considered, and its purpose rooted in daily life.

At Jennifer’s Collection, refinement remains central, with design led by Jennifer and executed by master weavers.

A pestamel is a flat-woven cloth without loops or pile. Its durability lies in structure and in the choice of fibre. Every thread remains visible. Nothing is concealed.

Design is built directly into the warp and weft. The more complex the pattern and the wider the loom, the greater the skill required of the artisan. The warp is prepared and mounted with precision. Treadles are pressed in exact sequence, guided by memory and control to complete the intended design.

Selvedges must remain stable. Rhythm must remain steady. Tension, alignment, and pattern changes are managed entirely by hand.

Fibres are chosen for how they behave under this discipline. GOTS-certified organic Turkish cotton for softness and absorbency. Linen for structural strength, breathability, and exceptional absorbency. Silk for suppleness and refined texture. Each fibre responds differently to tension. Each tests the hand of the weaver.

What appears simple is the result of mastery.

Quiet Intelliegence

A pestamel does not rely on bulk to communicate value. Its presence comes from proportion, alignment, and clarity of form.

Every thread contributes to the whole. Pattern, scale, and spacing are considered before the first shuttle passes through.

To choose it is to value structure over excess and coherence over ornament.

Strength is expressed through precision. Beauty through balance.

To Be Lived With

A pestamel carries more than water. It carries possibility.

Soft enough to wear, strong enough to cover, elegant enough to display. It moves easily from bath to journey, from table to terrace.

Light and breathable. Generous enough to wrap the body comfortably, structured enough to drape cleanly.

A piece that adapts, accompanies, and endures wherever life unfolds.

In Its Time

Each design begins with intention and concludes within the threads prepared for it.

The availability of fibre shapes what can be woven. It sets boundaries, keeping each run contained and deliberate.

Some warps yield only a small number of pieces, at times just a handful before the threads are complete.

What leaves the loom reflects a decision carried through to its natural end.
